Obituary for John C. Dixon Sr.

John C. Dixon, Sr. transitioned to spend eternity with his heavenly Father on March 23.
Life began for our beloved dad on July 3, 1936. He was born to the late Rueben and Rose Dixon in Elk Neck, MD but spent most of his childhood in North East, MD.
Dad enlisted in the United States Air Force where he became a weapons mechanic. He received a Good Conduct Medal as well as a National Defense Service Medal before his honorable discharge.
Dad went on to work for Speakman Company and Connecticut General Trucking Company before becoming Owner and Operator of John Dixon Auto Sales. Dad was a used car salesman for over 30 years. His passion for cars, particularly antiques, forged many friendships over the years.
In 1963, Dad married Carolyn Burke, and with this union had five children; Deanna, Melva, Angela, John Jr. and Tonya.
On July 1, 1978, Dad married Lucye E. Stockton and became a stepdad to Paula, Jonathan and Joseph.
Dad enjoyed attending air shows, antique car shows, watching westerns and cartoons, but nothing gave him more joy than having huge family cookouts.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents, Rueben and Rose Dixon; three brothers, Frank, Thomas and Lawrence; two sisters, Ethel and Julia; and daughter, Angela.
Dad leaves to cherish his memories four children, Deanna Bell, Melva Dixon (fiancé’ Albert Castle), John Dixon, Jr (Faith), and Tonya Reid (Cyril) of London, England; three stepchildren, Paula of Wilmington, DE, Jonathan (Gwen) of Decatur, GA, and Joseph (Stacy) of Riverdale, GA ; seven grandchildren, Latasha, Brandi, Angela, Latina, Brandon, Shauna, and Christian; ten great-grandchildren, one nephew, Lawrence Dixon, Jr and a host of cousins.
Special thanks to two devoted friends of over thirty years, Luann McEvoy and Fred Kurt; devoted and best friend Al Giampietro; and special neighbor, Gregory Mazlewski.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Alexander Robinson and Clover Lyn Kerr, the VA Staff, Christiana Care and St. Francis Hospice for the care and support they provided us during dads time of need.
