I spent my early childhood on the West Side of Wilmington, where I attended Heritage and Warner Elementary Schools, and the Cab Calloway Middle School of Arts; with my lower school education concluding at Christ Our King School.
My dream and goal of owning my own business began during my sophomore year in high school, when I began doing minor jobs in the funeral business industry. In 1999, I graduated from Hodgson Vo-Technical High School and went on to attend the New England Institute of Funeral Services at the Mt. Ida College, in Newton, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mt. Ida in 2001.
My career in funeral service continued in Baltimore, Maryland at the Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services where I became licensed in the funeral business, serving in many capacities as mortician, funeral director and manager.
During my eight years at Vaughn C. Greene’s, I honed my skills in the funeral business while never losing sight of the dream to return to Delaware and establish a funeral business. My dream was realized in 2009 with the dedication of the Evan W. Smith Funeral Services business in Wilmington, Delaware, and the opening of a second location in Dover.
