Constance L. Young, daughter of the late Catherine S. McRae was born in the city of New York on June 26, 1939. She was known to family and longtime friends as Connie. On Thursday, August 17, 2017, the Lord transitioned her from earth to glory!
She received her formal education in Rockingham, North Carolina where she graduated from Rockingham High School in 1957. She attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She transferred to and graduated from Miami - Jacobs Business College in Dayton Ohio, where she perfected her business skills. While in Dayton she met and married Irving S. Young, Jr. in 1959. To this union, one son and three daughters were born. This military family traveled extensively. They lived in Portugal and lived on different air force bases in the United States. While the family was stationed in Colorado she was an active member of Jack & Jill of America, Inc.
Connie retired from VA Hospital after 18 years of services. While there she held various administrative roles. Shortly after she retired, she volunteered for several years at the New Castle County Police Department.
Connie was a long time member of Bethel A.M.E Church, Wilmington Delaware. She and her husband Irving, enjoyed the teachings and inspiration of Pastor Beaman. She put her faith into action as she was the devoted care giver for her mother, Catherine Mc Rae and uncle, Lawrence McRae.
Connie enjoyed spending time with family and friends; indulging in her favorite activities including cooking and shopping. She was an avid Eagles fan and had a great enthusiasm for life. Her close circle of friends knew her to always be a good listener and to give sound advice.
She leaves to cherish her memory, husband Irving S. Young, Jr., children, Irving S. Young III, Deirdra L. Young, Jacqueline R. Phan and Monica L. Walker, six grandchildren Kimberly R. Kearse, Anthony Kearse Jr., Jetton C. Young, Taylor C. Young, Oriana C. Walker and Omar Walker Jr. and eleven great grandchildren; special friends Mildred Byrd, Gloria Walls and a host of other relatives and friends.
