Carla Michele Lewis
Carla Michele Minus Lewis, 59, made her entrance into this world two (2) months prematurely on February 5, 1960. She was the older of two (2) children born to the late Reverend Dr. Homer W. Minus and Barbara Elizabeth Simpers Minus. She was born in Mercy Douglas Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Carla was educated In the Capitol School District. During her middle and high school years she volunteered with the migrant program, fundraised for UNICEF, studied tap and jazz dancing at Marion Tracy Dance Studio, roller skating lessons, and briefly played the flute. She participated in the Ebony Club at Dover High School. Carla graduated from the former Delaware State College, now University, with a BS in Biology. She participated in talent shows at Del State in the dorms, one time impersonating one of her favorite musical artists- Prince! After college, she worked at Perdue later relocating to the Newark area and began working at Porter State Service Center lab in Wilmington, DE. Carla met and married the love of her life, the late Dr. Moses E. Lewis, DVM on November 28, 1987 in Dover, DE. They traveled to various states and out of the country. In November 2007, they were blessed with Moses Elijah, their son.

Carla was a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority and enjoyed participating in events her sorority planned. Carla was very intelligent and always wanted to learn more. She later pursued education for paralegal, certified nursing assistant, earned her LPN from Del TECH, then returned to Delaware State and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, passed her boards and became a registered nurse. She worked for various nursing agencies, nursing homes in the New Castle and Wilmington areas, and hospitals such as Emily Bissel and St. Frances. Most recently she relocated to Felton, DE and worked for EPIC HHC until her health prevented her from continuing.

Carla attended Christ Episcopal Church in her early years then began attending church in New Castle. Following her move to Felton she began attending Whatcoat United Methodist Church.
Carla loved to travel, watch movies, spend family time, and SHOP!!! At times, she would be quiet however other times she had the gift of gab sometimes talking even when the listener stopped listening. Carla passed away very peacefully after a short illness at Bayhealth Medical Center on April 18, 2019.

Carla was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Moses E. Lewis and her father, The Rev., Dr. Homer W. Minus, DDS, M.Div. She is survived by her son Moses Elijah Lewis, mother Barbara S. Minus, sister Felicia Yvette Minus Lewis (David), Great Uncle Perry Smith (Peggy), Devoted Uncle Thomas Palmer, Aunts; Betty Waters, Carrie Hutson, Doretha Minus, Doris Palmer and Sandra Simpers, Brothers-in law Dennis (Marie), Marcus, Maurice, and Michael, nephews Cornelius, Dennis, Desmond, Devin and Keith; nieces Queen, and Nyah and a host of other relatives and friends.
